If you all want to complain about the rare ones going extinct, you should breed them! Rare and difficult species are not for everyone. The reason BPs are so bred is their simplicity. They dont need much space, attention or effort to breed. They are considered beginner snakes, and they are often beginner breeding projects. I know BPs dominate expos, but how many of those vendors sell only BPs? Most are selling a few other species. I know right now I only have the BP breeding project, but as I learn and make mistakes with the reptile breeding I will expand into other species of uncommon herps. A typical "hobbyist breeder" is not going to get rich from BPs. With how much time, effort and money it takes to raise and care for the snakes, most hobbyists are getting their money back. Thats why you look at real breeders with massive rack systems producing thousands of snakes.
We shouldnt look down on BP breeding. We should encourage breeding. For most people, jumping into a difficult breeding project will just end up discouraging and quitting. When breeders become proficient with breeding we should encourage them to expand and challenge themselves.
I am just interested in breeding. Its a fascinating process. My fascination started when I was young and my swordtails bred. Easy to breed? Of course, but it sparked and interest in me and 15 years later i am attempting difficult species. Dont take BPs as a roadblock, take it as a learning curve and stepping stone to the rare species. Yes, many will only breed BPs for money, many others will expand into those rare species
