Getting an 8×2×2' tank this weekend and plan on housing my male vieja _______ in it. He is 14", now...Hates catfish of any kind, has little platy friends currently, I want to have another vieja in the bigger tank with him. He relentlessly chased my 7" syn female, so she's in her own tank for now. How safe would a reintroduction be if both were placed in the 240 at the same time? There wouldn't be any claimed territory in the new tank. Dithers? It's going to be a huge move. I should be more excited but I'm more worried for my fish.
Should I stock it with young veijas and leave Pretz in the 135?

If you want to end up with a compatible breeding pair it's best to add 6 juveniles and let them grow up and pair off naturally.
I did this and it worked well.

This is some of the group I grew on

It may be worth a try at introducing your adults but have a divider handy just in case.

Good luck.

You need to 'overstock' in order to mess up any hierarchy structure.

Add as many fish as you can at the same time to avoid any bullying.

Amazing size tank you have there! Enjoy it, don't stress!

Just give him the whole tank.

Those fish are very beautiful! What is the fish to the left on the bottom picture? Is it also a synspilum?

Ideally, that's what I want to do. Pretz is just so big, he's getting to be...ungraceful. ..in the 135. Gallons wise, it's ok but he's just got an inch or so to turn around with. Wasn't expecting such growth. He was 11-12" four months ago when I got him now he's at 14".
Your fish are amazing!

I think I'll look for a couple viejas the size of my syn, but it may end up being just Pretzs tank...or my parachromis pair, buddy and chica. .no, they are perfect in their 135 short...I wish I still had room for 28 tanks!
