doesn't look like a Geo looks more like a tilapia sp?
I've also seen schools of these huge tilapia there. Some are almost 2" long. I can't seem to get them to bite. Does anyone here know how to catch tilapia? The weather is kinda chilly, around 60-70 degrees F. I would love to catch one and post pics.

I mean 2'. Sorry, typo. Not whining about the weather. What I meant was, would that be too cold for tilapia to bite? I've never fished for tilapia before.

I was in Taiwan back in 1977, we had the language barrior too. I think these are some kind of Tilapia but the Chinese called them Wu-Kuo-ee.

We caught them on dough balls, & we traded the fish we caught for more bait. The Chinese were confused at first, but then they were happy to trade.

I wish I would have went up into the mountain streams to fish, could have caught Masou Salmon & other fish.

Here is a list of fish in Taiwan: http://fish.mongabay.com/data/Taiwan.htm

Funny thing is, I'm Taiwanese by birth, but grew up in America. And when you try to translate fish names, it gets really difficult. The salmon are now a protected species, because they are low in numbers. But yes, the tilapia look just like yours, but much much bigger. I did take a look at that website, but it is still hard when all you have are scientific names and you have never seen these fish before.

So I went again this afternoon. It was too dark to take pictures. I caught a cichlid that was about 8-9". The thing was bigger than my hands. And some other guy caught a bunch of mullets, good size ones too. I will post some more pics tomorrow after work. This spot is on my way to work, and I will be fishing before work. These cichlids are sweet.

Hey Mike, off topic here, but did you teach English in Taiwan? I'm an English teacher here. All the native English speakers here are teachers.

Thats a great score weather it be in a LFS and even better on the end of my line!

Some poeple have all the luck!!

On catching the tilapia I would try the smallest "husky jerk bait" rapala makes or a small "count down" which is also a rapala product!
