well it seems youve got him on a good diet, so i dont thinks thats it

keep an eye on it, my red tiger went very black even tho he was on the hikari diet then he had a growth spurt and colours came back better than ever

my oscar is same type as yours and he only shows black unless hes about to flare up than u can see his beautiful white tiger stripes. its weird

My tigers black goes to a pale whitish grey and his orange tiger pattern gets super bright when he gets excited or gets to chase guppies around the tank
