Frontosa acting strange

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I agree .. The others Fronts or others may be picking on it. It also looks like he has some damage to his dorsal fin. Is his tail fin damaged as well?

Having a hard time keeping properly oriented in the water (head up or tail up, etc.) or having a hard time staying down in the water or staying at one particular level in the water (for example, having to swim constantly to stay down) are also symptoms of float, in fact considered a more severe stage of float than just some mild bobbing from side to side. My first guess is he's being stressed by the mbuna in the tank. Most times mbuna and fronts are not a great combination. Despite their eventual size fronts can often be intimidated by aggressive or overly active fish and it's not often you see even adult fronts and mbuna together and the fronts have the nice, long finnage they're supposed to have. It wouldn't be surprising at all for a juvie front that's smaller than mbuna in the tank to be stressed. It might work sometimes, but it can also easily be problematic for the little front.
