I was very suprised to see the hump was actually not a fat deposit but regular muscle/tissue. I can see why the person wanted to do the autopsy to see where the organs are located, needle the wrong area and you kill the fish. If any of mine got a serious case of float i would still be afraid of needling, but i guess in the most serious cases the front would die anyway and it does have a high success rate if done properly...
 
Sad that you lost you Front. But I guess Science class never bothered me. LOL I find this actually pretty cool and informative
 
Thats pretty cool I was going to disect a baby that died to see if there was something internal that was killing off my fronts... except its hard to disect something that is a little bigger then an inch. That is pretty cool though, lots of things I didnt know and its nice to know how everything works and where its located.
 
Great, Informative thread, the blue/black sac is the gallbladder, the swim bladder is generally above most of the organs and is almost always pierced when dissecting a fish. In my ichthyology class, the professor was the only one able to actually open a fish without hitting the swim bladder and even he couldn't do that every time.
