Frontosa and Rays

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Do you have a pic of the 15" frontosa? I had thought of doing this combo before as my water is 7.6 pH with a 125 hardness but the other fish I have would not gel with them.

In between water changes on my 240, the parameters are ALWAYS in check.. 0,0,15. So, there is no cause being done to my rays.. this tank is no different than the other tanks I have. It's actually gets more upkeep than all the others.

The rays will be going into my 1500 once the koi are in the pond outside, which will be by the end of fall.. So this is only temporary.

Datnoids are slow growers, so there is no point in keeping them in a 240 when they aren't going to be putting on much growth at all right now.. they should be fine in the 180.. I can split them up into the 150 as well if I want.

The pike I am going to be getting rid of.

And the Juranese could go in the 1500 as well once the rays are in there.

I will have a 90 gallon empty shortly, and a 5 ft 110 empty as well.

As for the Frontosa.. they are a Colony. Why would I split them up? They are in the 150 now.. They need a larger tank that they all can go into, so I am going to put them in the 240.

I wanted to know if rays and frontosa's would work. My frontosa are very docile, so I think that it may just work.

I have seen it done so give it a try. My only concern would be if the fronts are big eaters, you might have a problem getting food to the ray.

The fronts are pellet only fish. They won't eat anything else.. I've tried.. so I got lucky there!

Here is the big guys.

Thought of doing it myself with Fronts and Rays but since the fronts are slow growers thought better. For those concerned with PH, I run my system straight out of the tap and it test out at 8+. The rays do fine and have for several years. Best to let them adjust to the tap PH rather than keep adjusting and risk it fluctuating or crashing by manually adjusting it with chemicals.
