Frontosa Burundi spitting food out?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Still havent been able to get it to eat anything but mosquito larvae. Cycling my 140g, right now. It will be moved in 3 - 4 days or so. Then in 3 - 4 weeks i will have some other Frontosas Burundis to add to the tank.

The fact that she is eating AT ALL is a good sign. It'll keep her alive until she is back to her old self. Most of my fishes have at one time or another become stressed or ill or injured and become fussy eaters. Make sure that your water is clean. No signs of disease like white/clear poo and be patient. I had a Flowerhorn eat almost nothing for three months while we battled internal parasites and he eventually made a full recovery.

Yes ok. Hoping that getting more Fronts will help. I'm gonna special order some in, hopefully around the same size as she is. Another problem is that because its apparently not season for mosquito larvae anymore, its difficult to get now. My LFS only sells mosquito larvae that a smaller than the one i used to feed her, and how long thats gonna be availeble i dont know, hopefully long.

I have been looking for tankmates, for it.
Would adding more Frontosas, like 8 more, be a good idea. Its still only on livefood, dosnt wanna eat anything else.
Today i will try to mix live with frozen, if it is not a succes, i might have the issue, that if i drop food in, it might not be able to compete with the others, i pretty sure it will, but a group of 8 more and if i feed live, i might have the issue the others are gonna eat it before it. I'm thinking it might see the others eating frozen, and then eat it too, but is it a too big risk to take? I personally think it would be able to compete with other Frontosas.

I just tryed to feed shrimp, cut into small pieces. It took a piece, and then chewed it, spit a smaller piece out, then chewed then spit a smaller piece out again, it continued to do that until there was a very little piece left, and it left that on the substrate. I'm thinking it acually eat the piece, just chewed into smaller, and smaller pieces until it was all gone.

It seems to be doing better, eating frozen food now.
I havent been able to get to eat pellets yet, and i dont feel that i should starve it, before it gains alot more weight.
Soon i will remove the sponge filter, and i'm a bit worried that the tank wont be oxyginated enough, so im thinking ill buy an Eheim air pump, that says 200l/hour, some im guessing it oxyginates 200 liters of water every hour, dont know if it like circulates trough it or how it works. Theres also a 400l/hour if that would be better. I'm guessing 400l/hour would be enough, but would 200l/hour?
