Frontosa Dreams...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have seven 6-10" mpimbwe fronts in an 8' 240. Three are wild caughts the rest are F1s. If u have the space and can afford it I'd go for a standard 8' x 2' x 2' like mine. Sometimes when I walk up to the tank my fronts dart in the opposite direction and occassionally hit the acrylic even when they head long ways across the whole 8'. Fronts are skidish fish. Any sudden movement scares em and with a larger tank they are less prone to hurt themselves. Having a taller tank will allow you to keep an additional front or maybe two but that's about it. Also, don't keep anything sharp in your tank, drift wood or rough rocks and the likes, as your fronts may lose an eye when they take off.

And I'd go for zaires. My personal preference. The blues are just significantly more vibrant. In my opinion they're just gorgeous.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Having a 6 foot tank with fronts right now... I will tell you I wish Mine was a bit taller for them... so sure footprint is key, but he is deciding between a short or tall tank the same foot print. Go bigger so you can place rocks. You have no clue what a loud thud will do when you are half a sleep...

mike is right. a bigger tank is always better for more fish of coarse but I will say that I almost never see my fronts at the top of my 2' tank. barely even come up during food time.

if you can afford it go bigger but if it's gonna put you in tight situation money wise get the cheaper tank and spend the cash flo on nice zaires.

Thanks for the tips everyone! however I did decide to take summer class's and tuition put my front tank back a bit :( but non the less I still plan to do a nice front tank and will post somthing once I get it going but I'm still debateing zaire vs. kigoma 7 lines.
