Frontosa Feeding

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
frontosas are not devils so dont go expecting a food processor. they are peaceful, slow growing and medium paced. get some flakes and frozen foods like emerald entre, krill and other low protien foods. once big enough try grass shrimp once every 2 weeks (gives em somethin to chase).

mine grew from 4 to 6 in a 6 month period. keep a good feeding and water changing schedule. t will start to look happy and inch its way up when u pass by or stand in front.

Hi there young fella.

I got my first Frontosa about 30 years ago and been hooked on them ever since. I'm glad you found them and hope you enjoy Fronts as much as I. First, that fish will never grow in such a small tank, Either spend some bucks and buy the biggest tank you can afford, or buy guppies and get rid of the front. Second, I don't know how big your front is, but get it to start eating pellets. even if you must buy the smallest ones they sell. The secret to get fish to grow is live food and plenty of it. Yes, you must be carefull where you get it. I have no answer for that, maybe raise your own. You can start with some guppies in that 10 gal. tank. Start raising brine/brime (poor speller) shrimp if your front is small. Anyway have fun with these fish. A 14" Front will get anyones attention.............

i have frontosa and when I bought my first front( a male) he hardly ate. Then i added 3 females and all of a sudden he started danceing changed color and started eating. I checked out cichlid-forum.com and got some info on them. I is better to keep them in a groupm to relieve stress and aggrecion. I feed them night crawlers that they love. ever since I added the 3 others I never had a problem with feedings.
