Frontosa Help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I cant say the same for my fronts I ve had them for 8 months and they are only 3 inches at the most .. I think its more along tank, fish kept with, and the params in the tank that might be the bigger deciding factor but my other africans grew alot fast then them in about 4 months my peacocks are already 4 and 5 inches. Anywho I dont see anything wrong wtih using a 48 for small fronts as a holding tank but like I said earlyer you would need a bigger tank within a year.. which as you stated isnt an option so you may be better off not getting it. If you could get a bigger tank Id say go for it.

letting go would probably be the hardest part. i do love my fish, but i love the way the fronts look. but after some thinking i decided if i wouldnt get it just because my other cichlids that wont grow huge have a long time before they reach their max size and by the looks of it, my tank is alrdy at max capacity for the all the full growns. thanks neways, still wish their was a mini me of the frontosa.

i would get like 4-6 then grow them out. i find they grow fast , if it wasnt ofr the huge black out the country had a few years ago i would still have mine. had them for little over 2years, and when the tank failed they were over 10" .

There's another tanganyikan which bares a vague resemblance to frontosas (though they are easily distinguishable), the neolamprologus tretocephalus (aka the 'tret').

Different fish all together but shares the striped pattern and coloration (some what). They max out at 6". I've never kept them myself so I'm not sure if they're suited the tank you have (I hear they're pretty aggressive).
