Add a bubble filter to the tank so that you can throw it in the grow out tank in 4 weeks. Here's what I would use: sponge filter

Good advice, I have about 8 sponge filters in different tanks, so I should be set:)

Rally loves his sponge filters, makes me consider getting one.

This is great.. we finally have a couple of threads of baby fronts on the way..it will be so interesting and informative to learn everything with you and see their cute little bodies grow,,I never saw front fry before.. congradulations !! Could you post some pictures of your female holding when you get a chance..

You might not get any fertiles this time around if its their first copulation. They will be too inexperienced with the traffic in the tank and it will drive them to confusion. Some things you can do is for the next time around you might want to separate the pair and place them in their own tank so they do not have to deal with the stresses of guarding their young. Or provide alot of coverage for them in rocks like they do in the wild. They use the rocks as backside protection from sneaky predators and just face up with whats in front of them. I always use method #1 that is if youre truly interested in breeding them frequently.

hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice:)

Are the eggs even fertalized. You said the other frontosa are smaller. You ually breeder males are larger than the breeding female. If they are not fertalized leave her alone and overtime she will eat them on her own. If you know they are fertalized you can stripe the eggs from her, but then you have to put them in an egg tumbler if they are not free swimming. If you let her hold them to full term then I would take her out because holding females get very week due to the fact that they do not eat while tumbling the eggs. Watch hwer though you have to get the fry out as soon as she lets them go or she will eat them. Don't be surprised if you only end up w/ a few fry from a bunch of eggs. That's one reason why they tend to be expensive.

We are just going to let them go and see what happens. none of them look stressed, and there is tons of hiding for them. The biggest in the tank is the male btw.

As long as the female isnt stressed its all pretty easy. I have had numeruos batches of fronny fry and they basically look after themselves as long as they get food. From day 1 of being spat out they seem to be able to keep away from trouble. I had other cichlids in the tank though so you might have no trouble anyway if they are on there own.

Awesome:) Thanks for the advice.
