i have a 220g tank with a pair of oscars and i was curious if a frontosa of similar size would be ok with them? i know tyipcally it shouldnt be done but the front is in a primarily S/A tank now.just more crowded than mine and smaller.what do you guys think. should i take it in?

ok ive got him not , its in a 40 gal just so i can make sure all is well before introducing him into the big one.i just couldnt pass it up, poor guy was in a 40 at the time way overstocked and underfiltrated, the guys whole place stank. i would've taken all his fish if i could. but then i would be the guy with the stinky overstocked tank huh?. so thanks, i just wanted to hear at leaste one person say they've done it.

but isnt a great idea! fronts shouold be kept in large colonies! and the pH of oscars and fronts are different!

possible but not the best idea!

:iagree: :iagree: :iagree:

yeha not a great idea i know but i just felt bad when i seen it in a 40G with a large blood parrot and 2 4-6" oranda goldfish in a tank without a heater and filtration that would be sufficient for a 10 gal, i asked the guy how often he does waterchanges and his answer was somthing like "when it gets low i add some" i figured im not a big blood parrot fan or a golfish guy but fronts are beautiful,so i had to take him. ill watch the oscars close and seperate em if it comes to be a big deal. the fish has never had proper care so i dont think the ph is gonna effect em to much. my hospital tank is the same as my large tank(water chem) and he seems to be doin awesome. eating well and very personable... we'll just have to see. ill keep ya'll posted tho.
thanks alot!

I agree, not a good idea, the Frontosa needs a much higher pH. Beats the aternative of a poorly kept African tank I guess.

Definately worth a shot. Even if they don't get along, you saved the Front from terrible conditions. Worst case senerio you get another tank, or re-hab him and give him to a good home.

Of course the front is going to do better and look better in high ph hard alkaline water, and the oscars in softer water. But lots of people keep both fish in whatever water they have.More importantly some variants of fronts are often somewhat shy so keep an eye that he isnt bullied by the oscars.Good luck
