Frontosa ratio

My fronts were cheap 4 bucks each, I did this so I can learn from them, how to sex, how to breed, how to care for. I do want to do more expensive fronts in the near future but not yet. Once I get my fish room set and a couple more large tanks

That's a great idea to start. Some people are ignorant and I'm sure will buy your fronts for $40-80 when 5-10 inches when you want to get into the other breeds of fronts and sell Burundi. Fronts are a under appreciated fish, only people that love them admire the different regional colors. Post some pictures when you're all set up!

Very rational approach. Lot less pressure than plunging right into big $ fish, then obsessing or freaking out over every little oddity of their behavior, which is what some people do. As far as ratios, how to get them to breed, or similar questions, the thing is fronts can vary quite a bit in temperament, so for some questions there's not really one single right answer and one person can be as 'right' as another. People tend to answer according to the advice they started out with or what worked for them, but a lot depends on the particular group, the particular alpha, the particular sub-dominant male(s), etc. So there's more than one way to approach that and what works for some doesn't necessarily make a rule that always applies.

Lot of people like to have an extra male or males because it gives you other options for an alpha if one is not working out, gets sick, etc. Not as important with Burundi as it is with less common types where another alpha for a particular strain may not be easy to come by.

Well my fronts are still small biggest at best is 5 inches I'm thinking of sexing them keeping biggest two males and starting to get rid of the rest of the males and picking up females or I may just pick out my two best males and get rid of the rest to get new blood they all could be brother and sister or cousins but I don't know for sure either way I'm going to go to two males and start moving my colony around. But yes I want to learn the ropes before dumping money and getting frustrated because I keep losing fry or can't get them to breed or what have you around me frontosa the cheap ones I have go for about 10-20 at the stores so I know I can sell private for less and I know my lfs will pick up the fry once I start getting them in a year or two
