Hey guys,

Just curious about something... I was in a pet store today and the sales guy said I would be able to put a Frontosa in my tank. I explained that I have a Dat, Green terror and Parrot in a 75gal. My PH is about 7.4 Is it possible for a Frontosa to live in the conditions and with these fish if I buy one of comparable size?
I like having different mixed fish from different areas but I basically don't want to kill a fish because of PH and I definately don't want the dat to get killed.
Thanks!

HELL NO!

Frontosa, first of all, get too big to be put in that sized tank with other large fish...or really even at all. Secondly, they're very large, but also very docile...friendly giants, you could say. They're also very slow moving...in a tank with those tankmates, a front would get shredded very quickly. Plus, they're a Tang fish, so they prefer much different water parametres (like, a very high pH level), than your current occupants. And lastly, fronts are very much a group fish, the absolute best way to keep them (for yourself and for the health and happiness of the fish) is in colonies of 6+ members (which, btw, would require like a 200gal tank).

contrary to popular belief, Tanganyikan cichlids seem pretty indifferent to what the pH is. That's the pH at which *at least* one major reputable fishseller breeds and raises their tanganyikans in.

I wouldn't ever worry about general water parameters with any cichlid specie... If its between 6.5 and 8.5, it works.

With your current setup, however, you should NOT look into getting a frontosa. Look into getting another tank before you consider getting one.

:iagree: P45 is right about the pH levels. they are very hardy fish and can with stand low pH levels. my main front tank is at 8.1 pH were as my breeding tank, i keep it at 7.4 pH. plus like eveyone said they will get messed up living with your tank mates.

Yes i must agree with the later 2 responses.first thing the Ph needs to be 8.0-8.2.
Teh fish You have listed would become a big headache for your Fronts.Mine have been housed in a 75 or 150 for plenty of room to make there domains...

Ive seen many Frontosas in with south american Cichlids without incidents. but Depending on size of the others compared to the frontosa there could be issues, so buy one near the same size and watch the others until the Frontosa gets used to the tank.

Fronts need a 6 foot tank. Keep Fronts with other tanganyikans. They do good in species tanks.

nah, not in that size tank. Though as stated above i wouldnt be to worried about the ph as long as you keep up on water changes.
