Frontosa Tankmates

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I know male fronts love their caves and hideouts..are you positive it is a female.. maybe a cave or big bell or something would protect her and give her own territory.

I found a home for the 5 silver dollars and now my Frontosa is content! I was just too crowded and lively with them in the tank. They totally irritated her because they move quickly and constantly. Anyway, I still feel she needs to be with other fontosa's in a colony in a tank JUST for fronts.

But I'm curious... WHY would she not be able to maintain a healthy life in a tank with South American Cichlids? I feed her special foods just for her.

south american cichlids typically come from water than has a much lower pH and softer than what frontosas need.

aggression levels came be different as well. It really depends on the temperament of your other fish. It also will need at least 6ft to swim and Fronts do best in a colony not so great in small groups or alone...

Yes, I've got pics, of her as well as everyone else. :) I am almost certain she is a SHE. She wants to be out and about most of the time; not in her cave. And her hump is way smaller too then the other front we are sure is a male. We've had both for 3 years now. He's not in these pics though. He's really pretty too (has the real long blue fins).

Our ph is high, so it's better for Fronts then S.A. Cichlids. But all of these fish are very healthy and we've had them all for over 3 years.

Thanks guys for your knowledge and help.

the best tankmates for frontosas are more frontosas
