NEW YAWK CITY
hey im stocking my 55gallon. i understand that Fronts will outgrow this tank in under 2 years and i am prepared to upgrade. The LFS has baby fronts that are about 1.5" for $16 each. Im buying two, with one 3 inch yellow lab. the employee said that labs are peaceful so they will get along. I was also thinking of maybe getting a peacock but i have not done ANY research on this species. My pH is about 8.1 and temp is 80. I have had a pleco in the tank for two days so idk if that counts as cycling. it has pooped many times lol. Im ordering driftwood from thedriftwoodstore.com, and a 12lb piece of texas holey rock will arrive withing 10 days. does texas holey need to be washed before?
for the driftwood i plan on sinking it in a garbage can with water changes to remove tannins as it loses its ability to float. what fish should i put in this tank. preferrably ones that will not be as big as fronts, but moreso lab sized. I think i can get this tank to look very nice. the gravel is dark blue as shown in the pic, but ehhh. the decor should do a good job of hiding its mediocrity. Is it safe to put fish in already? bringing a water sample to the LFS tomorrow to make sure my water is good.
i need advice because this is my first fish tank!

Well first off I would suggest getting a kit to check paramiters so that you know when it is finished cycling, that takes more thatn a couple days. As far as stock goes you could do a peacock, personally I would keep it with mbuna. I only say this because I have a 75 with 2 fonts 10 mbuna and 9 peacocks and it seems like. The peacocks do better with slower paced fish. Also if you can keep up with the filtratioin I would highly suggest overstocking the tank to cut down on aggression. I wouldnt think that you could put fish in there yet but your water param's will tell you when its time .

how long has the tank been running. of course there is no ammonia there are no fish. looks like you need to cycle the tank before you think about getting some fish.

tanks been running 3 days. dont i need fish to cycle though? thats why i thought i can start with 2 small fronts(1.5 inches) and a 3 inch lab to start the cycle along with my pleco thats been in the tank for 2 days.
