frontosa?

some mutations of stripes blending together
one type of 7 stripe
many types of 6 stripe

There are a couple seven stripes. Kigoma is the most comon. They probably cost around the same as the most common frontosa (Burundi).

The more rare and expensive fish are the zaire types. They have a lighter blue tinted background and a darker blue overall. Kapampa, kitumba, moba and some others.

This is pretty much the same with all Frontosas WC (Wild Caught) or F0 are more expensive, F1 is what most people want. Anything else is F2 or TR (Tank Raised)

Breeders don't like mooning or odd stripe patterns. Mooning is a white semicircle at the top of the vertical bars, like the top of the bar is fading away. They want solid black for the whole stripe. All of the stripes should not be split and they should have the same number of stripes on both sides. Some people will even cull fish that have an odd facial stripe that does not match the norm (it might be normal or a mixed fish).

In any case if you breed any of the two varients together, you will get flamed from the avvid breeders and hobbyists that like to troll the boards. If you are going to put different types in the same aquarium, and show your fish off to the others at different forums, you should go with males only.

well frontosa its just the common name for the cyphotilapia species and true fontosa have the 7 stripe..the other morphological variants have 6 that doesn't make'em hybrids or something.. if the have 6 and 7 on the other side..simply don't buy them..the are low quality strains
if you're getting some frontosa try to look for these details on the strips..

7 stripe frotnosa are more rare and a bit more expensive ..but its more important if they are wild caught or F1 as tunerX says

They are really nice though out of the cypho's family..i really like the distinct cheek spot that they have and more of a long slim body sometimes...overall pretty nice variant i would say but i would go with the zaires any day of the week....

there is the odd ball with 5 stripes, as well as 8.
usually those in the wild like that are thrown back in.

Those that are TR like that are usually not purchased by purists or culled if they raise them.
But the average person shopping at a LFS may not care, and if fact could make a little bit of money if they could get them to breed true.
