Hello. I just bought a new frontosa. I never owned one and figured I should take the plunge. He is about 1.5''-2''. I bought him as a red frontosa but he is quite blue. Now I forgot that they need high ph. I have him in my freshwater tank with 2 pacu, 1 albino pacu, 1 wild oscar, 1 jewel, 1 new uaru whom I got with him, 4 clown loaches, 3 unknown myleus silverdollars,a chocolate cichlid, and a spotted rapheal. I keep my ph at or around 7.2-7.6. I read that the p.h they need needs to be 7.8. Is there anyway that I can keep them at 7.2-7.6? I really love this fish. I hope he will do well in this tank. Now what size will he reach? What foods do I need to feed him? I get various answers on the web, I would like personal experiences please. I've seen many frontosas with fresh, so I've figured to give it a try, but what got me worried was the 7.8. If I raised the ph to 7.8, would it harm the others?
Thanks, and I'll snap some pics tonight.

Your pH should work fine, frontosa's are a bit shy, and slow. Many of your other fish are more aggressive, so watch to make sure it isn't bullied, and that it can get enough to eat.

The PH will be fine. Especially if it's tank bred or raised. My frontosa has variously lived through PHs that have dropped down as low as 6 in an old tank he was in, but he's in about 7.6 now and perfectly healthy/content.

Frontosa are great fish to keep. Looks like you have a Burundi there. You can tell by the line going straight through the eye. Sorry to tell you but there is no such thing as Red Frontosa. The stripes can look sort of like a wine color depending mood. Frontosa lighten and darken depending on moods and surroundings. "red" and "chocolate" names are just labels for the pet store to try and make more money.
