Would these two species work together? just wondering cause i saw some Geophagus altifrons and they are beautiful:naughty:.

I literally ask the same question of the frontosa site , most answers were that mating pairs of geos were very territorial. but groups of same sex geos could work.

a few members here have a similar set up and they look awesome together.

so you mean i could have the fronts and then a coupe of geos, but they (geos) have to all be the sex right? Thanks

I don't have too much experience with mixing them really. I did have some geos with other cichlids though, they were pretty aggressive. I would maybe suggest fronts bigger than the geos just so you don't have to worry about them being bullied. But like I said, I don't really know from experience, just opinion and what I would do. Both do look cool together though, post some pics up if/when you stock them!

thats what i was told , maybe someone else can add there experience?
but fr sure make sure the fronts are bigger.

Wouldn't there be a big difference in ph?

captive bred animals are more tolerant of such things , like how people can keep clown loaches with fronts.

if there is a ph difference, what would be the result? will there be anything wrong because there is a difference?

I don't know? I guess it all depends on what ph you keep your tank at. I doubt a frontosa will thrive at a ph of 6.5, but an altifrons will. On the other hand a frontosa will thrive at a ph of 8.5, and an altifrons won't. But I guess if you keep your ph around 7.5 they both would do fine.

Also ime geo altifrons are not very aggressive at all. Of course when breeding their aggresion will show, but in a big enough tank, with enough cover, I think they would be fine.
