Hello, I am thinking of buying some frontosas. They were currently in african water at my lfs with a high p.h of like 7.8. Say if I were to buy 4, can i transfer them to my freshwater tank. I currently don't have no african tanks and do not want to do an african tank. Is their any way I can keep frontosas in a ph of 7.2 and accumulate them?
Thanks,
Alex
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

i dont see why u couldnt acclimate them down, i used to keep one with my ca/sa thank for a while than traded it, and never had a problem with mine.

thats funny reading "african water". you could acclimate them to your lower ph, but 7.2 isnt all that bad as long as it doesn't fluctuate and is stable. what type of fish are you adding them with?

7.2 is fine. the ideal ph is only critical if the fish is wild caught since it is used to the ph in lake tanganyika. I am assuming the fish you are trying to buy is not wild caught so it shouldnt matter that much since they are probably use to low ph

Frontosas are freshwater fish.
Dont want to set up an african tank but want frontosa? How big a tank and what are you putting them in with?
Many people with fronts just put holey rock, limestone or aragonite in thier tanks and thats all the ph adjusting they do.

Tank size is 150..
Tank mates are thin bar dat, lungfish, ornate bichir, bala shark, and fire eels.

Youre probably going to hate them. They can be shy and skittish and with all that going on in the tank they might just hide.A really fiesty adult male MIGHT be enjoyable in there, but not likely.
Maybe some xl cyrtocara moori would be more interesting,if its blue and hump head youre looking for.Not sure how big the fish need to be to avoid being food in that tank though.

water will be fine as long as its stable. i gave mine a cave and it spends more time in there than out and about. but when it ventures out the thing is so cool thats its worth it.

i know in the wild they eat fish on the bottom, but idk if they would go after your bicher if its big enough. i would image though that if a front swallowed a bichir, the front would be in a world of pain.

I have my 2 inch guy in my sa/ca tank and he loves it. I gave him a little cave that he quickly claimed as his territory. He has even run the 9 inch JD out of there a few times. He is always out swimming with the bigger fish and is a complete food beggar. The hardest part about them in a mixed tank is feeding time. Due to the peaceful nature and fact that they are a mid level feeder you will need a slow sinking or sinking pellet for them. I usually drop the Hikari in for the big guys and then a pinch of sinking Hikari for him on the opposite side while the big guys are distracted.
