I have seen some beautiful frontosas but I dont know anything about them regarding care, if they are africans that require salt and such....I would love to have them in a tank of Pikes and such but it could totally be incompatible?

I'm setting up a 220 in the next week or so, havent finalized fish selections....got the tank, stand hook being delivered next week....

thanks

Welcome to MFK!!!

Fronts are beautiful large-growing Tanganyikan cichlids with males reaching over a foot. They require hard alkaline water with a pH of 7.5 and above. The salts in their waters is not sodium chloride (like sea water), but is calcium chloride.
They are compatible with other peaceful cichlids. But, pikes are not compatible temperment-wise or water chemistry-wise.

Thank you - it is amazing to see the color the africians have....I might that way on fish selection

fronts are african cichlids that come from lake tanganyikan.

They're cool fish but grow really slow, and they come in a few varieties but until you want to spend some good money stick with Burundi's. They are readily available and less expensive.

spend some extra money and get some better looking fish, thats the deal with these fish. try cichlidlovers.com, they have small ones but such great prices for wild-caughts.

I have a breeding group of 6 frontosas which are mpimbwe.I personally chose mpimbwe whice seem less shy to other fronts. If you are wanting to breed later on make sure you dont mix races.I found if you give regular water changes with fronts you will get the best colours out of them as they do not like stail water or high nitrates.

i agree i have two and they are very sociable.

Can anyone tell me how long it will take a 1 inch front to reach 2 1\2 to 3 inches.
Because i would like to put him in my 200 gal cichlid tank but dont want him to get picked on by other cichlids that are 3 inches and up.
