crushed coral does the job but i don't recommend it with fronts. fish don't have hands so the brush up against the gravel to scratch an itch. crushed coral is sharp and my scratch their eyes. they are clumsy fish. also the dig and coral will scratch their mouth. i use carib-sea's eco-complete cichlid gravel. bought if off of drsfostersmith.com. cheap shipping and low prices.
