Fronts Dying WTH!!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Lotsa things can cause Nitra spikes most common from what I've read on this site -
- In fequent water changes (nitra build up)
-Chlorimine in the tapwater (nitra in tapwater)
- water changes w/ cold water (cycle crash)
- Not changing the carbon frequent enuff (back spill of nitra when carbon is shot)
- Changing media to frequently (re-cycle)
- Dead fish

The water straight out of my tap does not have enough chlorine to even register on a strip test so it wasnt that. My guess what caused the nitrate spike was a mixture of not changing the media in my AC70, which was just pot scrubbies only, for about 5 months and adding the sand may have caused a mini recycle or something. The nitrate stack up from partial water changes may have had some play in there too. Either way ive gotten the tank stable enough now that the fronts are acting normal. I only lost one :( but Ill take one over all. Just gotta be more careful next time.

I had this happen to my baby front tank. I lost over 20 of my babies, including my red front. 4 hours of torture, just watching them gasp, bump, and sink and die. Even after moving them in to my community tank with my parrots. You are lucky that yours are surviving. I only have one left from that whole group, and he's now about 3 inches :)

Quick update on the fronts. Everything seems to have leveled off. I fed them this morning before I left for work and they were back to their ravenous pellet chasing selves. Thanks for all the responses guys!!
