so i was at the lfs yesterday and someone had brought in 5 very lagre(7"+) fronts, not sure what kind. i picked up a 29 to upgrade my africans. now i have a 20, 29, and a 75. current fish list includes:

1 6" senegal bichir
1 7" african knife
3 t. jaculatrix archers, one is 4 inches the other two are 2 inches and in qt
5 spotted cories
3 chinese algae eaters
1 discus
1 arabesque pleco
2 giant danios
3 pairs p.estherae
4 kenyi lombardoi

my question

would i be able to keep one or maybe a pair of fronts in teh 75 with a couple africans(10- 3 breeding pairs of p.estherae and 4 kenyi) along with the knife, bichir, and giant danio?

the discus, archer, cories, pleco would go in the 29 and would use the 20 as a fry growout for any fry from the tanks. i have an xp2 and marineland 400 biowheel on the 75 and a 280 biowheel on the 29 alongside a fluval 404 internal . i also have a tetra hangon filter that came with the 20.

i plan on getting two more 75s before june(3x2x2) and setting up a breeding program for discus and now possibly fronts if i can get a pair.

would this setup work?
 
How much were the fronts?
 
I say 75 is too small for Fronts, do not buy couple more 75s. Get yourself 180 and get all 5 of those Fronts and have a colony. They look absolutely gorgeous together.
 
2 Fronts would be fine in a 75 gallon, but I wouldnt suggest that.I would not put them with those Africans, they are agressive and if you were to keep them with the fronts, the fronts would most likely not breed and probably would spend most of their time hiding. If you breed Frontosas its best to give them a tank of their own. In general they should only be kept with other Fronts. Ontop of that if you want a colony of Fronts you need a minium of a 125 gal, but I would recommened a 180gal. Tank. Hope this helps!

I would echo this. Keep 'em alone and give 'em lots of space. I once grew out 9 in a 125g. Initially, they were in with other Tanganyikans, small ones. Lampros, Julis, etc, and I almost never saw the fronts; they just stressed. When I removed the others, the fronts just thrived, and grew, and were always out.

Gorgeous and rewarding fish, but if you don't give them ideal conditions, you are likely to be disappointed in them.

would a 75 suffice for 3 fronts and only the fronts untill i could get a larger tank in summer. i really dont want to pass up such a great deal. we rarely even get juveniles where i live. the 75 i currently have is 48x18x20.
 
Frontosa do not pair up, they are colony fish. If you get a pair, chances are 1 will kill the other. Even getting 3 will be tough. As with all "rules" of fishkeeping, someone has broken it successfully, but most of the time it won't work.

A 4' tank really isn't long enough to allow sub-dominant fish to get away from the dominant fishes territory. Frontosa should have a 5' tank minimum, although a 6' tank would be much better.

If you really want to breed Frontosa, get a 100g+ tank, and a minimum of 5 fish.

alright ill pass then. thanks for all the input.

would a 6x2x2 work for about 6 or 7 then?
