Frozen shrimp from Wal-Mart?

Go with what Oddball said. Raw shrimp is fine. I get mine from the meat counter at the grocery store. They usually hook me up with deals, or give me some day old stuff for free because they know I'm feeding it to fish. I bring it home, chop it up and freeze it.

I also feed frozen tilapia fillets chopped up into little bits.

Just my personal preference though, but I avoid walmart like the plague. I like to help out the little guy. Plus, it seems like there's 20 recalls for food sold at walmart each year. Still, if you ask me, raw shrimp is raw shrimp.

I have been feeding the bagged frozen raw shrimp to my bass for a year now. I have had no problems at all they love it.

Well the fact that i spent a couple hundred$$ on these fish, and gone thru the pain in the A#% process of getting them off of live food is all the more reason why i want to make sure i don't feed them anything that may harm, stunt or inhibit their growth. I don't wanna go thru that again.... Ya feel me?

I feel ya, but the fact you got them off live, just proves you have won the battle, so look at the bright side, your on easy street now............

Do you thaw and cut off the tail and shell?

Raw shrimp is fine...no need to de-head or cut the tail. The fish ferry in the wild do not de-shell shrimp and remove the head before fish can eat it.

Shrimp shell is actually good for them, it contains calcium.

I have fed my fish with anything under the sun for years....and everyone is still fine to this day. I bought them from any grocery store, chinese grocery store, dor to door seafood and meat salesman..

I usually cut of the tails, I thought I read once about about the tails cutting an aro's stomach. I never used to though. I probably don't need to, but I cut everything up in little pieces anyway, so tossing the tail isn't a big deal.

The shell also has carotene in it which helps with color.

And to be honest, I don't even thaw the food anymore. It seems to float a bit longer when its frozen so the fish get more of a chance at it before it hits the bottom and the rays devour it.
