FRT and Rays?

I had one with my rays for a year or so with no problems, and then one day he likes the taste of my rays.. I saw bite marks out of 3 of my rays and away he went, sucks because i really liked my FRT too..

Its been done but always a risk, once again it comes down to personality, size, and agro level. Heres a pic from the internetz....

Depends on the turtle. Mine will maul any big, slow fish he can get close to.

I still think it's males that are more agro and most who are posting who say they had probs are saying HE

hmm thanks for the input i'd like to hear some more details on their behavior though, apparently when they come in they are about 3" shell diameter. any idea on growth rate? also skynoch did it just kill the tats (that would be a nickname for...? lol) or was it only a suspect or...? my rays are about 9" right now so i'm just curious is all...

Years ago I kept an frt with rays with no problems, they lived together for approx 3 years ago in a 450 gal, I ended up selling the tank and stock.

I recently got another 450 set up and attempted to get the same frt/ray combo. This time it didn't work.

I guess its one of those things, 50/50 chance...same w/mbu puffers and rays...no straight answer, can go either way

Well as they are banned from import/export you won't be getting a 3 inch diameter one unless you don't have a problem with killing off the wild population

If you are going to brake the law and get a 3 inch one you may as well get a Asian Arowana to as I'm not sure if FRT are CITIES 1 or 2

They grow fast from 3 inch up to 8 inch then slow down to about 1 inch per year

Just found this old pic if you think you have room for a FRT it maybe worth a go but they do get big and one this size is a scary thing not your cute little piggy

They all nip in the end!.have had many of both sex's and never had one that didn't.have even heard of them biteing the clspers off of rays!

Hydrolycus tatauaia . Ya I was watching the one day and it ended up biting out one of the eyes of one and then just cornering it in the tank. The other one may have been a ray as I didn't see the first one die. It's been 3 months since then and no problems since but I was busy and never fed twice day like usual and everyone got more aggressive in the tank.
