fly river turtle with rays

ive heard it mentioned a few times and even seen skeptical people go for it. so what are your experiences with these two , have you tried it an how did it go ?

you can mate them as well you have a big side and feed FRT goods , when they not hunrry it wont go after nip the on the ray

Most people have no problems however there has been stories of rays drowning small FRTs and then stories of FRTs taking chunks out of rays.... so its really up to tempermant. I would make sure your FRT is bigger than the ray

my honest opinion I have seen it done and depends on the FRT that is with the right temperment they can be fine together but I have also seen parts of the rays have been ripped out even killed . IMO not worth it either seperate them unless you trust them or dont get one at all .

In my personal experience. my male motoro kept trying to mate with the turtle by biting it either on the neck or the flipper tryine to get under it. Finally had to take the turtle out due to it being harassed constantly.

im in west yorks but tbh with what ive read before i hadnt considered that the rays might kill the frt. more the other way around but now its been mentioned i think i wouldnt bother as ive seen the rays try to eat everything in the tank at some point inc the filter inlets. so i should have known better lol

thanks for the comments ;-]

Right

this was always something i wanted to try and was told it MAY work in a large tank
when i set up my 8ft long x 6ft wide x 3ft deep i put my rays in waited a few months then got a lince cat and a FRT both of which i always wanted

the lince cat got to big for even that size tank

the FRT was ok for about 12 months then he started nipping at the rays tails and sniffing around the eyes

as we both live in the UK the smallest FRT i could find was 9inch shell and you wont find one smaller than that if you do it was imported illegaly as they have been banned to import for some time now

turtles and any fish dont mix as the turtle will kill fish and the produce a lot of waste

dont do it it may work for a bit but its at night the problems start

this is mine at the start and it all looked good but it wasnt if you love your rays dont risk it

It can be a tricky combo to do and it will all depend on your rays and your frt. I've been keeping a mbu and a frt in my ray growout tank and all has been fine when I feed my frt quite well but at times for some reason the frt will chase the white spot on my pearl x marble but not any other ray that has been in there. The mbu and the turtle allways leave each other alone. I did try the frt in my main 2200 gallon tank and it was good until my one motoro decided it didn't like it and kept pouncing on it and biting it's flippers, the other 13 rays could care less. To me I would never recommend this combo unless you have alot of time to spend at home initially to figure out how to make this work. I currently have a pregnant scobina that has been in with the frt now for a couple years and should be giving birth so I'm going to leave the turtle in to see what happens as I can tell at least 6 hours before when a ray is going to give birth so I will sit up and watch the birth and see what happens. I've allready got a spare tank setup for the frt if I chicken out or need to move it during the birth. The pups will be moved right after birth anyways.

I don't see why people bother now I have had 1st hand experience so can say why risk it
I love my rays to much to put them at risk now it puts stress on the rays that can be avoided
I have stated problems in a 1000 gal now we have the same problems in a 2200 gal
If you are putting them in a tank smaller than 1000 gal you are asking for problems
Even the most passive FRT can turn over night
The cute little piggy can kill for fun not food
