i've had a FRT back in 03 and now it comes to this day where i purchase another pair. they are both 4'' just the shell. they are both now in a 6x2x2 and i was wondering if their claw/fingerlike part will scratch the glass aquarium? Anyone that personally owns some know? also another question, do they get stunth growth varying on the tank size?

sorry i have one more question. on the info provided on many websites regarding these species ive seen that they don't close their eyes and sleep? I've noticed mine doing so....does that mean mine are wild caught or are they sick???? even my previous one back in 02 did the same..

Im hoping your are keeping them in a 6 by 2 foot tank correct? Their claws can indeed scrach the tank´s glass but nothing serious. One important data here is that this species can all of a sudden turn agressive with conspecifics, specialy small ones so if I were you I would separete them. Their powerfull jaws can make nasty wounds on the victims flippers and shell. Make shure to fix that. As for growth no, it doesant gets stunth by tank size, what stunths turts or fish for that mater is stress caused by a to small tank, agressive tank mates, etc, bad nutricion or intoxication by a poluted water. But a to small tank is a good way to start this process. So by all means keep upgrading your tanks to at least 1000liters by turt and preferably the doble when they reach adult hood. Of corse if you are well suckseded in keeping them, you have got yourself a life long project. This species is known to reach sexual maturity in the wild by their twenties and live a very long time:D Keep very good water quality, perform very frequent water changes and give them a very good diet. Keep your eyes open for things like fungus.

I dont know where you saw that but is just silly, all turts close there eyes and sleep. If I were you I would serch for a more reliable sorce of info. Of corse all turts can have their insonias or for some reason be active at nigth and that could be the sorce of that info. But that alone is not something you would use as argument to say that yours are sick and stuff. You need to let them setle down. If they look normal, eat and swim then there is nothing to worry about:D But anyways keep them under close observation by the first mouth or so, to see if any health problem makes himself notice. Make shure also you have UV ligth. Oh and by the way your turts are wild cauth or captive hached (but no captive bred) no doubt about that

i figured so, keeping them in a 6 by 2 for their entire lifetime is not a smart thing? I have a pair and i know they can be agressive towards each other but the person i bought the pair from said they have been living together up until now and had no problems fighting n think they r male/female pair... so far i havent seen any wild vigorous actions but i dotn wana risk the worst outcome...but im sure there are ppl who successfully mixed these and had no problems??? anyone out there like to share this??? i dont wana sell one off because of their health hazard...

u say their claw can scratch??? meaning their claws are stroung enough to rip through our skin? how do u know if FRT claw's leave scratch marks on glass tanks? Have you owned these before?
