Hi All,

Seems like almost all the FRT/PNT setups I see give no space for the turtle to fully dry out and/or bask. From everything I read most say the turtle will not utilize these areas even if provided. Is this true?

I am planning out the 560 (upped in size from the 450) gallon tank for my PNT and trying to decide if this would be a good idea or not. I am planning on keeping this turtle for its full life so I want it to be the best I can provide for the long term health of the turtle.

Let me know your thoughts!

If yours is a female it will eventually need a out of water laying area, otherwise is completly unnecessary. If a frt tries to get out of the water something very serious is going on, unless its trying to find a place to lay.

Will a female without a male (never bred) still want to venture onto a dry area periodically?

I know most people do not provide a basking spot. I just want to know if there might be a slight benefit to having one I would like to accomodate this with the new setup.

female turtles will lay eggs whether they have bred or not. It is important for them to be able to lay their eggs because I have heard of turtles becoming egg bound if they cannot escape the water to lay them. As far as basking goes though, there is no point to provide them with a basking platform, only a laying area.

It should be necessary for any Turtle.......Whats the point even keeping them if you can't provide the options to perform life functions?.........

Drying out is neccesary for any Turtle, even if they only use it sparingly........

PNT are fully aquatic turtles...

Really not for fly river turtles.. They hatch on land and never return to the land except to lay more eggs.
