PNT are fully aquatic turtles...

No such thing.......

Really not for fly river turtles.. They hatch on land and never return to the land except to lay more eggs.

Anyone notice where I said "options"? Any turtle that inhabits this Planet should have the ability to "Bask" or "dry out"........Whether its a FRT or a Mud Turtle.......To deny them the option only causes problems.....I guess I go above and beyond, rather than stay at status quo......

I've never heard of a male FRT having problems with no basking spot, since they do not bask... care to elaborate?

Thanks for all the info. I will plan on incorporating a seperate above and next to the tank area for her. Will be fairly easy to do - inwall setup.

What do you guys feel is the best lighting setup for a FRT / PNT? The turtle in question is currently at a freinds house and I will be the new home. I like to research everything first hand myself instead of taking everything as the fact.

Just a regular fish tank lights is okay. they don't need special lights as long as you have a heater in the tank. I keep my girl at 79.4F and keep the ph a bit high. I feed her twice a day...prawn on the moring and algae wafers/veggies at night. When I got my turtle she had bad shell rot, was underweight and her back legs did not work. After a pricey trip to the vet she is now in perfect shape...but it took three months and constant treatment every single day. So just make sure you take good care of the FRT b/c they are more prone to infections. I also have an full grown adult male and female RES turtle....there is a difference in the care between the two species.

I agree...care to elaborate? It's good to hear other opinions.

Give them the ability and they can use it whenever they please.........Don't give them the ability, you deny them the option and have a potential for shell problems..........

Ever seen a Sea Turtle? They bask, and I've seen Males out of the water doing just that........The comparison comes in the fact that both Turtles use the same niches, prefering to stay mid-upper water column when they are on the move.....

To everyone that say they don't bask, have you set-up a proper basking area in order to test that theory? The Flys I've seen set-up will use light/heat energy, but not in the way other Turtles do........They'll come close to the surface, slowly glide at the surface, then go back down to whatever they were doing, just like a Sea Turtle.......

but that is not out of the water. How many times have you seen a sea turtle or a fly come out of the water and dry off to bask?
