He's a two year old, 11-12in Red devil. He has a tank all to himself, but he spends most of his time hiding behind a rock and gets spooked when I approach the tank. He was never like this before and I want to replace him with killer glass banger if he doesnt get his act straight. Any thoughts?

Do you feed him live feeders? Maybe throw a few targets in there and see if his attitude changes.

Getting his act straight....how is he suppose to act?

How big is your tank and how is it decorated? If a fish feels not secure or if it is stressed by lack of hiding places or bad water or too small a tank he is going to act in a way he feels secure.

Hes a killer when I introduced him to my community tank! He also takes the feeders, but not right away! He'll pick em off one by one in a long period of time... And what I mean by his act is to have a killer personality. I have several tanks and I reserve his for a fish with attitude! And I check his water levels and everything is fine

How big is the tank and a picture would be good. Water is fine? What is the nitrate level please.

So you feed him feeders. Not particularly good if they are goldfish or rosary reds. Should change it to pellets and freeze dried krill...does he poo normally?

I decorate his tank very simple for cleang purposes. 80°F, dim lighting (without the flash), 70gal.

I hear your frustration... Big RDs suppose to act like guard dogs.

Must be a change in the water chemistry. Hope its that and not sickness.

Some do, some don't.

That guy will let himself loose all personality as a solo. I have been through that road.

He is on strike for being solo. Put him back in a crowed tank and take another one out.

Has nothing to do with sickness and or water....
