Fry Always Die!

If you are not feeding them then they are starving. You need to put newly hatched fry in a barebottom tank with a sponge filter. As soon as there egg sacks are gone they will quickly starve. New fry need several feeding per day to thrive.

i think that you should leave them with their parents. there parents will keep them alive and together even if there are other fish in the tank, then you can take the free swimming fry out a couple weeks later. then they will be able to take care of themselves much better.

Skip all the hassles...

I have fed all my fry mixtures of finely crushed fish food.
I do not have the kit or knowledge I guess in raising BBS.
This worked out fine for me if you arent trying to bring up 100s of fry to juvenile stage for wholesale purposes.

What Id do is just put fry mixture in a cup.
Scoop some water from the tank in to the cup and swirl it around.
Then dump the cup out into the cloud of freeswimmers.

Also freeswimmers will nip at the slimecoating and micro organisms living on the parents and decor, so Ive been told, and witnessed.

Good luck!

try giving them baby hatched brine shrimp and then when they grow big brines good luck sad to hear about the fry try to cut a deal with your local petshop not a chain like petsmart or nothing but an actual petstore ask them to raise them to mid size and offer them halve for free thats what i did for my oscars

It's now been several weeks since the fry are free swimming. I must say that I probably only have 10% of them left, but those 10% seem to be doing pretty well. I put a car-sponge on the filter intake early in the game so that the fry could peck food off of it and also so that they wouldn't get sucked in the filter. I've been doing frequent water changes from the main tank to the fry tank. I think that helped. I'll post updates as time progresses.

Also, leaving them with their parents is not an option. The parents tank is large, but it's got a bunch of faster smaller fish in it that love to eat fry. They wouldn't stand a chance. I typically just leave the fry with the parents when I don't have room for the fry anywhere else - knowing they'll get eaten.
