Fry stuck under gravel

My jewels recently spawned for the first time and every time I check, there are more little fry stuck under a layer or two of gravel, still alive... I keep trying to rescue them but don't want to spook the mother or anything so is this normal? Is there anything I could do to prevent this? Maybe sand substrate next time (the gravel was free) any suggestions on anything? Here is a pic of parents with babies...

If your trying to maximize the amount of fry then bare bottom is always the best choice. Fry will get stuck in gravel and die.

Might i ask where you got them? And how hard were they to breed? How big are they?

keep feed the baby, n separate baby with net breeders maybe can help the fry

I got them from a lfs here in San Diego (pet kingdom) they were real easy to breed, I put 3 of them in my cycled tank with caves and kept on my water changes and in a month I had fry

best thing you can do is take out the UG filter... old style filtering, use either sponge filters or HOB ( hang on back ) filters...
