Nope, they're in a spawn now with .5"+ fry. Never had to take out any of their fry inany spawn unless I was going to move them. I've never used a divider for these 2 and their first spawn was in a 40g breeder. Every fish is different. With aggression temperament and social skills. These 2 are in a 4' long tank and they haven't attcked each other in anyway, NOW, mating behavior is similar with CA cichlids. Lunging, flaring, lip locking will always be there. Aggression towards each other, no. Breeding behavior, yes. In this case the female is the aggressor of the 2 since they are smaller.
