In Peru, any body can send 3 boxes of fish out without an exporting permit. More than 3 boxes require a permit. To send three boxes would be so expensive that it is seldom done.

Sorry to derail, but how many fish per box?
If I decided to plan my own personal trip:
How much does it cost to export 3 boxes of fish?
And how hard is it to find someone to ship the boxes for you?

we occasionally get payaras. I actually had a few but gave them to a friend... they were eating me out of house and home!!!!

MFM...depends on what type of fish you get.... tetras can be packed 1000-2000 per box. Large plecos, one per box. You have to figure this for costs: $200-$300 for the paper work (all exports have the same paper work in Peru whether it is one box or 100 boxes). Most airline cargo have a minimum weight for a shipment of fish, so one box is the same charge as 10.... Most people (unless they are good friends) dont want the trouble of shipping out fish, and most exporters wont ship to you unless you meet their minimum box or $ order.....

If I did bring anything back, it would be small cichla, severums, and plecos...I would probably fill the box requirement...lol

When I came back from PeRu in January, I brought back two boxes that I checked as my baggage. So, there are ways of bringing back fish with out them being shipped to you. Bringing them as checked baggage is a hit or miss process. The year before, the airlines refused to allow me to check fish as checked baggages....

Bump for just a few more spots...
