I have 1 P. elongatus, 7 labs, 4 colbalt zebras, 3 red zebras, and a catfish (don't remember the name but it is brown with small black dots and looks kind of funny). I think the catfish gets around 6 inches. Is this fully stocked?
With Mbuna, if you have the right combo of species and good filtration, I think you could go up to 20 of them in a 55 gallon. This obviously depends on adult size and temperment.
I do think that in your situation, you are pretty fully stocked because of all the zebras. You could probably get away with adding another female to each zebra species.
He's stocking his tank with 15 fish that will be 4-6" at adult size not counting a catfish who can range in size from 3-10" depending on species (Syno. lucipinnis, petricola, multipunctatus, eupterus?)
I don't know if either one of your tanks holds a 6" fish but from this end they all look pretty small.
If half OP's fish were species that averaged 3" it would be a little different.
I agree with it being pretty full. There is a very good balance in the tank right now. My favorite fish is the P. elongatus which is pretty kick ass. The cobalts are nice too. What is crazy is it seems a few of the labs and the elongatus are the most aggressive. I think I will grow them out and not add anything else. I'll figure out the catfish species and post it.
Yeah, I would have to agree now. My biggest fish are 3" - 4" fish, with most being in the 1.5" - 2" range. I imagined what 6" fish would look like - those are bigger than I thought! lol
