full freshwater puffers?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I was uneasy about shipping fish as well. However, I have Now received 5 puffers from shipping and have Not had one issue. Some clear coast to coast. The abei is worth it. I personally vouch for that. And a flowerhorn is less a wet pet, plus wont fit your tank.

There are indeed a number of Flowerhorns that may fit your tank (shortbody, blood parrot line) but they may be a bit harder to find than your average Trimac mutts. I've had both fresh water puffers and flowerhorns and in my experience flowerhorns were much more interactive and outgoing. However, I should also mention that I've seen plenty of boring flowerhorns and some really desirable dog-like puffers as well.

There's nothing more disappointing than spending your time + money and dedicating a chunk of your living space to something that doesn't do anything for you. Some fish stores/distributors may have the "it's the same fish so why not buy it?" mentality, but they just want your money if they're saying that. Be picky, as you have every right to. The difference of fish personalities even within the same species can be night vs. day. It really comes down to the individual animal itself, the best scenario for you would be to see the fish in person and decide whether or not it has the potential to be a good wet pet for you or not - just remember factors like how long it's been there, tank size and condition can all be influential.

Many FW puffers are "lurker" species & just sit around like a rock.

Yes many are lurkers. They act like a rock or stick in the sand until pray comes buy. Arrowhead hairy, miurus, and I believe Its called a Congo all fit that description. That's why I didn't choose any of them and went with the abei. He's a swimmer. My.salivator is also a swimmer, never even seen him bury before. He's all over the tank and has a HUGE personality. I really do need to get video of him showing off his ridges.

Someone said on the first page a figure, they are extremely hard to car for and are brackish and marine fish, So not freshwater. I still vote Alberto if you can find one you really like the looks of.

Figure 8 puffers are low-end BW fish (SG 1.005), not SW.

The puffer in question (Abei Puffers) are part of the "target species", they should be more active than your average lurkers. In contrast I've met some really interactive Congos, their personalities really do vary vastly when you're dealing with more intelligent species like puffers and cichlids - you just gotta get lucky.

It will definitely shorten their lifespan, which should be close to 20 years.

Corrected my phones auto-corrections on that. Sorry, could see that would cause confusion.
