Looking for a turtle for my 200 gal. Tank frt I can't buy maybe a matamata? I want to keep the water the full 26 inches deep so maybe I slope the substrate? Your ideas

Florida softshells are one of the most fully aquatic next to the frt...they still need a platform of some kind but dont bask as much as hard shelled turtles. Mata mata are amazing animals but can easily drown when smaller, your sloped substrate idea would be perfect for a mata.

How big do matas get? I could start it out in a 50 gallon, I know matas get up to 18" but I guess I mean how long is the reach of this guy including snorkel? Are they really that stationary?

40 breeder tank is a good start for most any turtle...and a mata would most likely be fine in a 50 for quite some time depending on the tanks dimensions. I had a pair of matas for about 2 years and they maybe put on an inch a year.

fly river turtles but theyt are very rare and expensive in the states. I think they are banned from imports.
