It can help reconstitute electrolytes, but can also cause even worse dehydration due to the salt content.

I saw an episode of that show with Les (can't remember the name), and it was about how he makes the episodes. It was pretty crazy to see that he had to drag his cameras around with him, and setting up a nice wide-angle far away shot meant he had to leave the camera, walk far away, and then come back for it.

...and try to get food and a fire going at the same time.

They had to re-edit all of Bear's shows after it came out that he was faking most of the stuff he did. That's why there is a big disclaimer at the beginning of the show about him being helped when he needs it. Les is the true survivor, before he got into film making he and his wife spent a year in northern Ontario living a primitive lifestyle(no matches or metal or anything). Bear is the entertainer, smoke and mirrors, and a lot of voice overs... Entertaining, but mostly dribble.

As for that stick hitting the rabbit, I remember watching it before all the re-editing, the don't even show the stick hitting it. I bet the had the poor thing staked down to the ground on a leash, anyone who has ever been outdoors knows you can't creep across an open field to sneak up on a WILD rabbit, and not some rabbit in a park that people feed the crumbs too. Why would there be a white rabbit in a green setting??? Don't arctic rabbits change color with the season? Probably some pet rabbit they just bashed on the head and then let this guy munch on. I'm totally cool with hunting rabbits or anything you want to eat (legally). But make it a sport and cut the BS.

You know that is true when I lived in Long Island NY there were wild rabbits in area. I used to leave carrots, spinach by field across st from me to watch them eat in early evening and even after 2 yrs of feeding them.
I still couldn't get close to them they would run like the wind even if they saw me .
