Ok. There are numerous African cichlids that will spawn in a 40b. Altolamprologus Compressiceps “Sumbu” is one option.

There are multiple small New World cichlids that would present a challenge but if you're looking for more of a Rift Lake style this probably wasn't the best sub-forum. ?

I'd go with ivanacara adoketa
It'd be something you're average hobbyist has probably never seen. Beautiful coloration but from what I've heard they can be very aggressive. It's on my list for sure
I'd also like to try nannacara anomala.
They kinda look like a smaller electric blue acara when breeding especially.
Could do a killer shell dweller set up in a 40b also.
