We're all used to mis-labelled fish at our LFS, but it happens on the herp side too, and it's pretty amusing. Yesterday I walked into our Pet Supplies Plus to kill a little time, and I'm looking at the fish, and my wife says, "hey look, a nile monitor". So I head over to have a peek at this nile...and find a beautiful little tegu staring me in the eye. A Colombian of course...if it was an Argentine I'd be posting pics of it in my possession, Argentine tegu for a nile monitor price, nice.

I actually almost bought it anyway, perfect specimen from what I could tell and seemed pretty fearless.

unbelievably, i saw a boa constrictor labeled as a "brown morph green tree python" and yes, i'm serious.:screwy:

haha yea. there was a tiger shovelnose labeled as a shovelnose. i asked the guy what kind. he said just a normal shovelnose and that it only reaches about a foot. HAHA i got a positive ID from the pros at MFK. and yep a TSN. haha sorry i dont have any reptile storys yet.

iv spotted a few in shops but cant remember what.

but was out with the man from my local rep shop today and we went in to a cd/dvd/game store, and i was lookign at the horrors. anyway, 'Anacondas' actually had a pic of a indian python on the front lol we were both amused.
nearly bought it just to see if the actual film was all an indian python rather than annies.

and was it an indian the whole way through? or did they actually use an annie?

As I recall they were just fake snakes all the way through...the movie takes place in Thailand I think so they've botched it either way. I think the original with J-Lo etc was in the Amazon though.

Also I can't stop thinking about this tegu, I really want it, but I'm resisting because I know it will need its adult enclosure before I'm able to provide it. It's somewhere between 18" and 2' now, not a baby.

The one reptile shop near me gets in things from time to time and they have no idea what they are and I swear they draw the names out of a hat. I usually stop by and correct them every few weeks to their enjoyment. Last week they had a Butterfly Agama labeled as a Jungle Runner and a Side-blotched lizard as a Texas Collared Lizard.

They also have a "Dwarf" Pyxie Frog for sale that they refuse to believe is a dwarf. They keep telling me it's the larger species which I know isn't true since I OWN the larger one, lol!

I have seen a red tail payara listed as a scomb. unfortunately, I did not get it though. I have also heard stories of some really neat things coming in with imports like fiji banded iguana came in with a shipment of other lizards from asia or a diamondback terrapin that came in with a bunch of sliders.

My personal favorite was when I saw a normal ball python in petco listed as "pretty phase python" and being sold for $200
