Between the Texas cichlid and red devil who do you guys think is more aggressive/tougher. From my personal experience i think the texas is more agressive but the rd is a better fighter. Just wondering cause most people i talk to seem to underestimate how aggressive the Texas cichlid actually is.

Both species are on similar scales of aggression. It really depends on the individual fish as there aggression varys between one another. Some are more docile and some are killers. I do see some underestimating the aggression of Texas cichlids though so I get where your coming from.

Yea i ended up getting rid of my texas due to him trying to kill anything that was lower in the hierarchy than him. He tried to beat on a dempsey i had at the time and the dempsey gave him hell ?. I never saw the Texas even try to go after the rd. My rd on the other hand is currently doing well with my oscar, convict, silver dollars, and flagtail prochilodus.

Imo they’re not that bad. I had a Texas pair in the 125, an 8 inch male and a 5 inch female. Both were pretty chill. They never bothered anyone unless they were breeding. Then again my female buttikoferi kept them in check until she decided to go psycho.

Funny question I currently have a 4 inch Texas who was an absolute murderer until I got a 3 inch red devil who keeps my Texas in check and I was shocked seeing it happen when it happened ..

I’ve had a pair in the past, an 8-9 inch male and a 5-6 inch female, they were never really aggressive, not even when spawning lol
I have a little 2 inch Texas cichlid right now and it’s the least dominant fish in that tank. It stands up for itself but it rarely picks fights.

The only “killer” fish I’ve ever had was my now late female Buttikoferi. She was an A-hole but a very pretty one with a big personality. Best fish I ever owned.
