I had my old one trained to catch pellets as I tossed them, mid air like a dog. I'm trying to train my new one now. I wait until he's underneath my hand looking up and make a deliberate slow toss. At this point, he positions himself well at nails it the second it hits the water. I am about one step now from him jumping and catching, his timing is off, we'll get it.

The crickets swim over to my intake tube, crawl up it and get out, so I flick them back in and call my Aro a woos.
 
why stop? most people are trying to get theirs to eat from hand
 
From my experience, their teeth are like sandpaper. Maybe I just haven't been fully bitten?
