I have a 100 gallon set up and cycled, with 15 zebra danios and some neon tetras, ive just been waiting for my next payday to actually get some fish I want, as usual when I bought the zebra danios those little snails that take over aquariums came along with them. I noticed that they have been laying eggs on the glass, which is fine with me but all the eggs after a few days get infested with fungus, white moldy looking stuff. All the fish are doing exellent, even the neons which are ridiculouslly fragile but I want to know if I should treat the tank with some anti fungal stuff before I get any fish I actually want to keep. Its only on the snail eggs, not on any of the plants or rocks or anything else. theres no ammonia no nitrite and about 10 ppm nitrate if anyone needs to know that. anyway, suggestions would be greatlly appreciated

Howdy,

Since your water parameters are fine and your fish healthy, I do not see the need for treatment. If it was me, I'd just remove the snail eggs when I see them. Since their eggs die off, the snail population will go down naturally, and your problem will be solved automatically.

Good luck,

It is probably more likely a form of bacteria eating the dead eggs than it is a true fungus. I would think it will be fine as well

If it were an egg eating fungus and you were trying to save the eggs then methylene blue would work but it really does not sound like a problem.

thanks for the imput, im im not too worried about saving the eggs, there just those craze little snails that take over everything, plus tomorrow is when I get paid and get to get some keeper fish, im really glad I dont have to medicate the tank first, all thanks to MFK, amazing site

I had that happen also, i got the snails off a few plants that i thougth i had rinsed off well enougn. Oh well, i just scrubbed down the sides of the tank and did water changes when the stuff started to build up. I also got three yoyo loaches to take care of some of the babies and its worked fine so far. If you have a lot of snails it might be that you are over feeding or that there is just too much readily available food for them at the time. They generaly slow down breeding when the environment cant sustain them any longer, so watch the amount of food left in the tank. and end the end when you get it all evened out, snails arn't so bad, they help keep the tank clean and look cool when they get larger.
