fungus on aro head.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
it's improved a lot since this morning. I can still see some small spot on the first scale on top of his head. Are all aro's head have wrinkle?

I'm running a DIY 120g sump with Japanese mat and micron filter sock. I've include some gravel, active carbon and Indian almond leaves. My pump is running at 35gpm.

Your stock doesn't seem bad for a 500g tank, but you should still have some nitrates in a cycled tank...especially if I'm reading correctly and you haven't done a water change in two weeks and there's 40ppm out of the tap.

How long has your tank been set up?
What test kit do you use?
How old is the test kit?

The fact that you're getting 0ppm nitrate when testing your water is a red flag.

I used a API test kit....tanks been up and running for about 3months....i also though the kit was wrong also. I did a test of tap water after i tested tank water to make sure the test kit wasn't bad. Aro's healing nicely though. My nitrate used to be 20ppm about 3 weeks ago.

Minus the carbon from the tank during normal filtration.
Carbon and aros don't mix. Carbon can strip micro elements from the water that the arowana needs to thrive. Can contribute to hith and other problems.

it's improving.... i hardly notice it anymore. I haven't done anything other then 20% water change and add salt.

glad to hear that your fish is doing better
i do a good salting once a month as a preventative measure so my aro n friends dont get sick...plus a good 15% water change every 3 days(i have a siphon on a switch and a filler hose comin out of the roof.....its sweet and easy)
if i ever see a spot pop up its gone the next day ussualy....and i also run about 4X too much filtration so its crystal clear and has a decent curent

use melafix and i think you need a UV , it'll help alot for your aro, just my 2 cent :D
