Hey all, I have peacock bass pair (some people here are saying male and female-but Im having doubts-gonna try and vent the one in question soon) The female has laid eggs for the second time now and both times have been unsuccessful due to fungus.
The first time she laid eggs, I did nothing. I did a little research, and bought MarOxy by Mardel Labs and used this for the second batch...this gave the eggs an extra day without fungus, but then it grew on them again...
What should I do/use? I've heard about Methelene Blue, but can't find that here. And I do know that peacock bass eggs are highly prone to getting fungus...
So what are your reccomendations?
Thanks in advance!

MarOxy from Mardel Labs is the best I've found for treating against fungal and bacterial infections in scaleless fish and is safe enough in controlling fungus from attacking fish eggs.

Thanks oddball...do you think I should remove the rock where they lay the eggs next time and put it in a seperate smaller 20 gallon tank to treat with an air stone/heater? Because the filters in the 150 gallon tank the pair is in now has 6 month old carbon in it...

Or try replacing the carbon... but i dont think that has anything to do with fungus on your eggs... would only make the water a little more clear... rinse really well or your water turns black...

as for moving them... i wouldnt just keep trying what you are doing and hope you get results...

so will pbass lay eggs even without a male present? Might be a question to ask. I mean if she lays the eggs an he doesnt fertilize will they get the fungus I would assume so, So I mean is because his female is laying eggs does that mean there is a male an feamle present or it doesnt mean anything......

Just trying to get you some answers man.

I usually set up pieces of tile in my tanks for my cichlids to breed on. It makes it easy to move them to a different tank. When my severums started breeding I had the same problem. The eggs would either get fungus or the fish would canabalize them. I set up another tank with sponge filter, live plants and java moss to put the tile with eggs into. I us methylene blue by kordon in my tank and it works good. Good luck.http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/group/11044/product.web

justin and nighthawk, thank you both! nighthawk, yeah man thats exactly what I was thinking/trying to get across! Not sure if you followed my thread in the pbass forum or not, but the reason why I feel that way is because people were saying that from a vent pic I took-they said it was a male-NOPE! That "male" is laying eggs! The second bass (the one I'm suspicious about) I couldn't get a clear pic-and no real answer so assummed female...
