I have used it many times and it works great.weakening it is killing it, and when treating a sick fish its not practical to have the possibility of a cycle crash to add to the stress.

not saying it doesn't work, I'm saying its probably too harsh to use in this situation, especially with the fragile nature of the fish at this point. Methylene blue is much easier on fish, helps them regulate O2 better. I'd say that's the ticket in this case.I have used it many times and it works great.

Yeah I'd like to avoid a crash if I can help it. I can get stuff called Blue Planet Multi Cure, it contains 0.40mg/ml Malachite Green, 4.00mg/ml Methylene Blue and 2.00mg/ml Acriflavine. Do you guys think a bath in this work? It says to dose the entire tank but I'm not really down for crashing my tank, not with Bruce's age and what not, I don't know if he'd survive a mini cycle.I have used it many times and it works great.
His scales don't look puffy today, not sure what happened but I'll take it! However that bit of fluff has almost doubled in size within the last 24 hours. Will the blue planet get rid of the fluff? It claims to but so do a lot of things that don't work. It has the highest concentration of methylene blue of all the "meds" in the shop. I COULD go to a vet and get straight methylene blue but at $70 for an appointment and god knows how much for the actual med its a little out of my price range ATM. Will the blue planet suffice or should I dip into my "concert fund" (going to see The Used in November so I've got a bit of $$ stashed) and take him to the vet? There are only two vets around me that will see fish and they charge a blooming fortune to do so. Therefore I'd be more comfortable spending $30 on the blue planet if I can.If it is dropsy, the prognosis is poor.
I'll grab it anyway as its 1:00pm here and the store closes at 5, and I don't want to miss my chance at medicating him. But I'll wait for someone else to chime in before bathing him in it. Thanks heaps for all your help, from me and Bruce.I don't know. I have never used Blue planet. I have experience with formalin malachite green and I know it works quickly and effectively.
what else does it have in it? Methylene blue has always worked for me when a fish had a cottony growth on them so I will say yes it will help.I'll grab it anyway as its 1:00pm here and the store closes at 5, and I don't want to miss my chance at medicating him. Just the methylene blue, malachite green and acriflavine is what the bottle says. I'll make him up a bath now. Just the regular teaspoon per litre of salt?what else does it have in it? Methylene blue has always worked for me when a fish had a cottony growth on them so I will say yes it will help.
if you have aquarium salt handy add a touch of that as well.
P.S. the Used....oh man and here I thought you were an ok Aussie hahaha.
ok so it has both meds in it and acriflavine, should be good to go.Just the methylene blue, malachite green and acriflavine is what the bottle says. I'll make him up a bath now. Just the regular teaspoon per litre of salt?
