 Ive changed my mind on stuff before too.:grinyes:

I still remember the time some guy wanted to put a lionfish in with his oscarsand started yelling at the LFS employees because they wouldn't sell him he lionfish..:screwy:

it's so funny cause i'll look someone square in the eyes whether they are big or small and say "i'm sorry but you can't do that." (implying that i'm not giving them that fish.) i know fish are fish, but sometimes i let it slide with cheaper fish. i just get tired of arguing. but when it comes to more intelligent fish with great personalities and they want to just put it in their 10 gallon tank with oscar and pacu, i tell them NO!

I dont think she did anything wrong. English is my second language and even I know that "Full-bred" means "fully grown". This word is used at fish farms and LFS here. Because "bred" has many meanings including: 'To rear or train; bring up'. It's a trade word - At least around here. I think you were confused with the word "purebred".

Anyway, of course not everyong is a veteran hobbyist. Of course not everyone enters the fishkeeping world with all the things they need to know. They are amateurs. This is an exotic hobby and most people dont know much about it. The point is that almost everyone who first enters this hobby makes a lot of stupid mistakes. Instead of belittling these people, its our responsability as veteran hobbyists to guide them and help them so that hopefully some day they will mature into sensible and helpful hobbyists also. Insulting them behind their backs helps nothing - its just asinine.

I understand you want to have fun. But talking about funny things said and insulting people for just not knowing the right information are two different things.

Yes but it is another thing when you try to educate them, and they will not listen. That is the part that makes us all laugh, when you tell someone for example that saltwater fish and freshwater fish cannot live in the same tank, yet they try to buy them anyway. This is to help us release our frustration, while yes some of it is ignorance, but when it turns from ignorance to plain stupidity, like ignoring advice given to you by someone that should know more about the topic then you.

as wyldfya said, it is TWO DIFFERENT things here that we are talking about. it's when you TRY to inform and educate someone and they look at you stupid as if to say "how dare you try to tell me what i can and can't put together." or "i'll put whatever fish in whatever size tank i want to." it's those type of mentalities that we are making fun of. i am WAY more than willing to help a customer or fellow MFK member who WANTS to learn information. i think you have the wrong idea about the post but it's alright. i forgive you. ;)

I am going to bring this back up because I have had some good ones in the past couple days at work.

One guy bougt one of those P.O.S. 1.5 gallon topfin tanks and asked what kind of saltwater fish he could put in it. First of all we dont even sell saltwater, second I asked him if he had kept fish before and he said no. Then I went on to explain how a 1.5 gallon tank is practically impossible to keep SW fish alive in...well of course I just ended up pissing him off.

My favorite was today. A guy came in and asked if we had sea turtles! At first I thought he meant like normal aquatic turtles so I took him over to the red eared sliders. He was like no not those. I want one that lives in the ocean with them flippers for legs. Oh man I tried my best to not laugh in his face!

AAARRRGGGHH!!!! :swear: :swear: :duh: :duh: IDIOT!!!!!

Ha always the fat smelly women with 2 kids in a pram, 3 running about like lunatics and obviously another 3 on the way!!

Now I'm not smelly and not fat, but I am a woman and I do have little ones. Yes, I bring my 2 year old (in a stroller) and 9 year old with me. No, I don't let them run amoke in the LFS. Yes, I still bought fish when I was pregnant.

I have a feeling if you saw me walk into your store with my kids you would assume I know **** about fish or I'm just buying for the kids. Even though I've been in this hobby since I was 9. You know what, kids can get a bit unruley when they are bored. They get bored because their mom has been waiting for a clerk to wait on her for like 10 minutes but the clerk is too busy pretending not to see her.

Why is that? Is it because I'm a woman? Is it the kids with me? What's with the assumptions? If it was a fat smelly guy would it be different?

I don't mean to go off on you guys, but something about that sentence just bothered me.
