So an MFK member came to me with a problem the other day..

I was helping him with some stocking ideas, and I suggested some small peaceful knifefish..

Well just for peace of mind, he decides to try to post his stocking ideas on one of these other fish message boards, full of 'so-called experts'..

Of course, they scold him for saying his tank will be too overstocked (combat with water changes, as long as aggression isn't an issue), and that he is a fool and should quit fish keeping completely. These 'experts' live and die by the 1" of fish per gallon rule, so that right there starts to display the ignorance. :screwy:

So in his list, he included that he would like to have a small peaceful knifefish..

(Here comes the funny part)

One of the self-proclaimed experts blurts out, in a negative fashion,

"Don't you know knifefish grow to over 2 feet and will eat all your smaller fish!",

with a slew of demeaning comments to follow..

HAHAHAHA..

1) There is over 50 species of knifefish, on 3 different continents.. If you're such an expert to be able to give advice and scold people, you should know that right?
2) By stating that knifefish grow over 2 feet, the only knifefish known to him is the Clown knife. This right here displays an immeasurable amount of ignorance. I mean, everyone has seen a BGK as well, right?! Unless he was stating BGK get 2 feet and are aggressive, which displays more foolish thoughts.
3) By continuing to scold the person to only make himself feels better, further displays his idiocy..

It's people like this who really set me off.. They think they know everything, because they read 1 book or learned from 1 other ignorant person. They are narrow-minded, and 'know-it-all' and refuse to learn anything new.. They feel that they are so knowledgable that they can put down and discourage new hobbyist, which only diminishes our hobby in the long run. It's ignorant jerks like that who make newcomers tell me "Fish tanks are no fun, the fish die too easy and they all kill each other, fish are hard, I quit.." ... This only happened because the person was mis-informed by some know-it-all..

Does anyone else feel the same? :naughty:

Anyways, I just had to share this story.. For all of you who never knew there are SO MANY species of knifefish, now you know!! Most people only know of BGK, CK, and African Knives.. Check out the official Knifefish Photo thread for some of the rarer species!

Yeah I have run across people like that before. They just make you want to knock them out.

hahaha tossers. best bit is, for all they knew this guy could have been keeping fish for years and years, and wanted to try something new like knifefish. i love the way some people just decide your a newb to this game, and the ignorance and big headedness really amazes me. your on a fish forum to learn and give people advice and facts. not to slaughter them personally or about there pre-concepted ideas of that persons fish keeping skills. those people can go hang

one reason i am attracted to this forum is the knowledge base compared to those others that are full of people who just want to rant about your tank size or fish combos

Those are the same experts that refuse to believe the electric eel is actually a knife. (Gymnotiforme). Makes my job much harder when I have to defuse the frequent; "But, so and so told me..."

HAHAHAHHAhahahaha now that is funny!

Yes, I get sick of the 'So and so told me'..

and Yes Oddball.. I learned about Electric Eels being Knifefish the first day I saw an Export price list.. I never realized it, but they are listed with all the other knifefish and gymnotiforms!

Don't know.. Didn't really care to know. If I found out, I'd probably waste my time defending the MFK members and being banned.

Infact, he posted his same comments on one forum, and they banned him because they said he was a TROLL. Can you believe that crap?
